Kenny Porpora is an editor with Patch.com. His writing and reporting has been seen in The New York Times, Newsday, and the New York Daily News, covering crime, politics, sports, courts, business and, the occasional Puppy Dog Halloween Costume Party.

On his first day at The New York Times, an airplane crashed into the Henry Hudson River. Along with 30 other reporters in three states, Kenny was on the scene to watch authorities pull the plane in a story that would go on to become a national phenomenon.

Later, with the New York Daily News, Kenny followed the New York Yankees to their 27th World Series championship, reporting on their triumphs from the Bronx and Philadelphia as they defeated the Phillies for the win.

Kenny graduated from Columbia University with a graduate degree in journalism, where he studied investigative journalism, computer-assisted reporting, and long-form narrative writing. He earned his bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Hofstra University.

An avid guitar and piano player, he spends his free time playing music, hanging out with friends, surfing, running, and exploring the Bay Area. As a kid, Kenny was a professional wrestling fan, and still, from time to time, catches himself caring a little too much about the story lines.

Growing up, his best friend was his puppy dog Joy, whom he had for 12 years when she passed in August of 2004. He has not yet found her replacement.

His favorite band of all-time is Guns N' Roses. And he thought they deserved their own line.

Kenny is an unregistered vote, but voted for John Kerry in 2004, but did not vote in 2008. he considers himself fiscally conservative but socially liberal on most issues.

Kenny was raised in a Roman Catholic home in New York. Today, however, his religious beliefs are more personal and independent of organized religion. He does believe in God.

When he isn't reporting on city council meetings, budget issues or local newsmakers, you can usually find Kenny exploring San Francisco, eating brunch at Town in San Carlos, or watching The Sopranos.

But for the most part, you can find him at your local coffee shop, writing.
