It could cost Americans 20 percent more to get their bacon fixes as a deadline virus sweeps through the nation's hog barns. (Patch file photo)

There is always a reason for a price-increase - I can't remember ever reading about a reason for aRead More price-decrease. It's possible no one else has noticed this. Isn't capitalism wonderful?

The disease came from China! Aids came from Africa, other diseases come from Mexico but yet we letRead More people flood to this country and they bring those diseases with them!

The price of pork can also go up because the price of beef is up. It's not just weather andRead More disease, it's also cost of fuel.

Very brave individuals to come forward in today's anti-worker climate. You can fight back if youRead More have the tenacity. Good to see the government worked for the worker and not the industry this time. The government agency did what it was supposed to do. But only because the workers stood up to the owners.

Those investigators should have checked with me. I just let them go because I was tired of themRead More using my kitchen stove, dishes and utensils to prepare their meals and then sit at my table for an hour chatting and laughing away while I was trying to work quietly in my home office.
Michael Williams April 15, 2014 at 10:33 am
We've used Sunflowers Maid Service for cleaning our multistory Belmont home for about 2 years - andRead More found their workers to be very hardworking and capable. Our only complaint is that they seemed to be too rushed, not putting items back where we had placed them - a symptom of the company's pressure. We hope the company survives - and greatly improves its treatment of its workers. They deserve better.

I guess all of those alternative energy sources are so much hooey. Also the claim that the US willRead More be energy sufficient in a few decades is beginning to look a little suspect.
Sam Chetcuti March 30, 2014 at 08:12 pm
I can't relate this article to others I have been reading. The other articles I am talking about areRead More saying how the US is becoming less energy dependent on foreign oil. If that is the case and the US is extracting so much energy from it's own territory, why then the spike in gas prices?

Because you will continue to pay for it

"PG&E officials said they believe criminal charges are not warranted and that employees didRead More not intentionally violate the pipeline safety law." It does not matter if you intensionally violated it or not. PG&E failed at doing their jobs, breaking the law in the process, and people lost their lives. Money does not matter, $500 million to the families... drop in the bucket to them. They say they used shareholder money, so next year they raise rates to recover from low shareholder earnings. We are the ones paying for this.

Just another shake down artist like the other good Rev, Al Sharpton. Get a Real Job Jesse.

i hate shock jesse, but asians, women, and gays are minorities too...if jesse had ever had a job inRead More the private sector he'd know that jobs go to the most qualified regardless of their pigmentation ...... if he wants more black people working in silicon valley he should step to the plate and get more black people educated in computers and technology .... i don't see jesse calling on the nba to be 'more inclusive' ....
terry mccaffrey March 24, 2014 at 10:37 am
Well said, Libi!
Following months of "Fight for $15" protests calling on higher wages for fast-food workers, some California McDonald's employees have joined in six lawsuits filed in three states.
Dee March 13, 2014 at 09:01 pm
This article is such a disappointment. What happened to our local news on Patch?
Chris Corbett March 14, 2014 at 04:41 am
I think it is highly relevant as McD's and other fast food establishments are in South City and onRead More the Peninsula, as well as employ so many herein...just shows how these big corps. do take advantage of the little guy to get ahead. However, in the end, the little guy still needs to wake up and take control of his and her own destiny and quit pointing fingers and become better educated and more marketable--then indisposable to a company!
A Delargo March 8, 2014 at 05:03 pm
Just like Carmen's comment above.... most people are professional and the rest are not looking forRead More a job and therefor don't count as 'unemployed'. People are either working their butt off or trying to get an Obama phone !
Ralph Garcia March 9, 2014 at 10:32 am
I have read some really off the wall comments here but to think a DA has anything to do with theRead More unemployment rate is just stupid
Yvonne M March 9, 2014 at 11:16 am
There's a lot of professional people I know who are unemployed and their unemployment has expiredRead More and therefore no longer counted as unemployed.
Concerned Md Citizen March 8, 2014 at 03:43 pm
the good news is that a reputable company bought Safeway; the bad news is they may keep the sameRead More awful management personnel therefore stifling its rebuilding.
Steve Pogue March 8, 2014 at 06:08 pm
Interesting that the price paid for long-established Safeway with 1,305 stores in 20 states is lessRead More than half of what Facebook paid for Whats App. Seems a little out of balance, no?
Gladwyn d'Souza March 10, 2014 at 08:47 am
Only if there is an earthquake or other natural disaster and folks are dependent on the three dayRead More supply at Safeway. Hopefully Albertson closes all these dumps. Remember Safeway's response to selling pink slime- all our products are approved by the USDA.
