Cyclists Take to the Roads Saturday for Cleaner Air

This Saturday, hundreds of cyclists will embark on a ride, taking off from Foster City. Some will bike 10 miles, some as far as 62.

It's all part of the 2012 "Bike 4 Breath" ride, which raises money to benefit clear air and lung health programs in communities throughout the Bay Area.

The event is organized by Breathe California, part of the Golden Gate Health Partnership. Breathe California is based in Daly City.

Routes for all levels of cyclists are available, from shorter 10-mile routes good for beginners and families, all the way up to 50- to 62-mile routes for experienced riders.

"All ages and abilities are welcome to participate in Bike 4 Breath," said Joey Law, an intern for Breathe California.

The registration fee is $25 for those under 18. For those older than 18, it is $40 for the 10-mile and 18-mile routes, and $50 for the 50-mile and 62-mile routes.

The ride will take off from Life Technologies at 4000 E. 3rd Ave. in Foster City. 

Check-in time is from 7-8:30 a.m. for those opting to take the 50-mile or 62-mile routes. Check in between 8:30-9:30 a.m. if you opting to take the 10-mile or 18-mile routes.

Not up for a long bike ride, but still want to help the cause? Organizers say there are many volunteer positions open on Saturday, for help needed in various other capacities for the event.
