Relay for Life and Bark for Life Events Coming Up

'Bark for Life' is coming up on Aug. 11, and the Foster City Relay for Life will take place Aug. 24-25. Both events honor those with cancer and raise money for the American Cancer Society.

 

They get you outdoors in the fresh summer air, and they raise money for a very good cause.

Coming up this month are the "Bark for Life" event at in San Mateo, and the 2012 Relay for Life in Foster City's . Both events raise money for the American Cancer Society.

'Bark for Life'

Whether you're a die-hard Relay for Life participant and fund-raiser, or you're not up for a big team effort but you still want to help out, Bark for Life has room for everyone.

Bring $10 to San Mateo's Seal Point Dog Park on Saturday, Aug. 11 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., and you'll help benefit the American Cancer Society fundraiser, as well as get a cute Bark for Life scarf. Bring your four-legged best friend and enjoy time at the dog park while helping out a good cause.

Bark for Life honors cancer survivors as well as those who have lost their battle to the disease. The event will feature games and prizes.

 

'Relay for Life 2012'

The 2012 Foster City Relay for Life will take place over 24 hours from 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 to 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.

You can join as an individual, start your own team, or join an existing team.

A final meeting for teams and captains will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the in Foster City.

If a cancer survivor wants to participate in the event but not do the entire relay, he or she can register just for the Survivor Lap that kicks off the start of the relay.

Opening Ceremonies take place right at 10 a.m., and the Survivor Lap at 10:15 a.m. A luminaria ceremony will take place that evening at 8:30 p.m., and closing ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
