PJCC Girls' Soccer Team Wins Bronze Medal

It may not be an Olympic medal, but the 11 girls from the (PJCC) in Foster City who are coming home from the Maccabi games in Memphis with a bronze medal in soccer are undoubtedly flying just as high with pride as if they had won it in London last week.

The Maccabi games is an annual national championship with competitions in sports like tennis, basketball and soccer that includes a week of sports competitions, but also works to instill cultural pride and wholesome Jewish values in its participants, as well as skills of teamwork and social acceptance.

Teams from the PJCC have been participating in the Maccabi games for the entire 30 years the competition has been around, but this is the first time they have come home with a medal, according to an interview in the San Mateo Daily Journal with Nicole Shifrin, the PJCC’s Youth and Family Program Manager.

In total, the PJCC took 32 girls and boys to Memphis for the competition, from a few different sports.

"Mazel Tov to the Peninsula Delegation Girl’s Soccer team, who scored a 3-2 win against a combined team with delegates representing Ann Arbor, Kansas City and Chicago," Eileen Mitchell, the PJCC's marketing communications manager, told Patch this week.
