Foster City Residents Complete Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon

Two Foster City residents were among the 2,000 people -- from ages 16 to 76 -- who competed in the on Sunday.

Andy Potts of Colorado Springs, Colo., came in first place for his fifth time with a finish rate of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 17 seconds, according to event officials.

Leanda Cave of Tuscon, Ariz., took the first place position amongst the women, making this her fourth win of the race. She finished the race in 2 hours, 18 minutes and 17 seconds.

Featuring a 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shore, an 18-mile bike ride and an eight-mile run through San Francisco, this race is considered one of the most difficult triathlons in the world.

The Foster City residents who completed the race are Philip Levy, 28, with a time of 3 hours, 35 minutes and 18 seconds; and Javan Bernstein, 46, in 2 hours, 53 minutes and 34 seconds.
