Hillsdale's Richwood Named PAL Bay Pitcher of Year

Softball standouts Tyler, Fonseca and Stewart all earn first-team honors for champion Knights; Aragon juniors Duddy and Bowman land all-league selections.

Hillsdale High’s Jordan Richwood was named the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division’s pitcher of the year on Tuesday, her latest achievement in a masterful prep career.

The senior ace compiled a 21-4 record and a 0.59 earned run average in the regular season to lead the Knights to their second straight PAL Bay championship at 12-2. Richwood has totaled 309 strikeouts in 165 innings, issuing just 26 walks. The Memphis-bound right-hander, who shared PAL Bay pitcher of the year honors in 2010 with Capuchino’s Michele Pilster, has amassed 19 shutouts.

Hillsdale catcher Courtney Tyler and infielders Danielle Fonseca and Kaylin Stewart were named to the All-PAL Bay first team, and junior Marissa Cho landed second-team honors.

Aragon's Maureen Duddy, the PAL Bay's 2010 player of the year, and Elena Bowman were first-team selections. Fellow junior Brook Ramsey was a second-team pick.

Hillsdale (22-5) now takes aim at its fourth Central Coast Section championship, and first since 1991. The fourth-seeded Knights host No. 13 seed Willow Glen in a Division II opener on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Richwood and her teammates will need to be at the top of their game as the Knights landed in the same playoff bracket as West Catholic Athletic League powerhouses Mitty and Valley Christian.
