Hear From the CSN Giants Insider Andrew Baggarly

He's part of the "Celebrate Giants 2012 Championship Dinner," at the Elks Lodge in San Mateo on Friday.

Comcast Bay Area Sports Insider Andrew Baggarly is the featured speaker at Friday’s “Celebrate Giants 2012 Championship Dinner,” hosted by the Peninsula Nationals, a youth baseball team, at the Elks Lodge in San Mateo.

Baggarly, who wrote the best seller “Band of Misfits” celebrating the San Francisco Giants’ first World Championship team in 2010, is also known for his winning streak on the game show, “Jeopardy,” over the summer.

The dinner, priced at $35.00, will go to offset the costs of sending the Nationals to the 12-year-old Cooperstown Invitational Tournament. Families are encouraged to attend.

The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. and includes performances from the San Mateo-based band “The Headliners.”

Baggarly, who graduated from Northwestern, has worked for newspapers in Riverside, Oakland and San Jose before joining CSN.

He covered the Los Angeles Dodgers when Jim Tracy was managing there but quickly changed his allegiance to the Giants when he moved north.

Noted for his dry wit, Baggarly’s brilliant impersonation of Tracy is well-known among his colleagues in the press box. He was also the first reporter to write that Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera would be suspended for 50 games due to violation of Major League Baseball’s drug policy.

Baggarly is a well-spoken speaker who can engage an audience of any age. He will participate in a question-and-answer session.

The Elks Club is located at 229 W. 20th Ave., in San Mateo. For more information about the dinner and evening, please call 650-888-5866.
