CSM Track and Field: Bulldogs Grab Four Gold Medals in Conference Finals

McDaniel, Uikilifi each take two. Bulldogs hope to take home more hardware on Saturday.

College of San Mateo's Evan McDaniel and Nikki Uikilifi each won two titles at the Coast Conference Track and Field championships today at Hartnell College of Salinas.

The Bulldogs hope to add to their total today in the last day of the competition.

Men’s state shot put leader McDaniel led a 1-2-3 CSM sweep in that event with a throw of 55 feet, 5 3/4 inches, just off his best of 55-10 1/4.

Josh Uikilifi was second (51-6 1/4) and Sione Fanaika third (48-2). McDaniel won the discus throw at 157-0, with Nathan Wright third at 154-11.

Nikki Uikilifi took the women’s shot put (38-8 1/4) and discus throw (128-9). She ranks No. 3 and No. 4 in the state in those events, respectivel,.

The Bulldogs lead the men’s competition with 65 points, ahead of De Anza (59 ½) and Hartnell (36).

Hartnell leads on the women's side with 54 1/2 points, followed by state favorite Laney (48 1/2), City College of San Francisco (37), and CSM (20).

CSM jumper Leander Johnson contended for two titles, but settled for second in the high jump at 5-10 3/4 and third in the long jump at 21-3 1/2 to add to CSM first day point grab.  His season best high jump of 6-1 1/2 wound have been good enough to win the title.

Today's finals begin with field events at 11:30 a.m. and track events at 12:30 p.m.
