CSM Softball: Bulldogs Walk Off With Playoff Win

Pilster flirts with no-no, tosses two-hitter for 27th win. CSM moves to within a win of series victory.

Vika Kafoa drew a bases loaded walk with two outs  in the bottom of the seventh inning to give College of San Mateo a 2-1 walk-off victory over visiting American River College on Saturday in Game 1 of a best-of-three state community college regional playoff series.

The Bulldogs (37-4), seeded No. 2 in Northern California, hosts No. 15 ARC (23-16)  Sunday at noon for Game 2. An if-necessary Game 3 would be played immediately afterwards.

Michele Pilster (Capuchino High) took a no-hitter and 1-0 lead into the top of the seventh and was two outs away from closing the deal when ARC’s Jessica Heaney tied the game with a homer to left.

Pilster (27-3) struck out six and allowed three walks in a two-hitter.

Mary Ganal led off the decisive seventh with a single to left right center. She moved to second when a Beavers outfielder bobbled the ball and then took third when Selina Rodriguez (El Camino) walked and Jamie Navarro (Capuchino) was hit by a pitch. That set the stage for Kafoa (Capuchino), who drew the walk-off walk on a 3-0 pitch.

Kristin Petrini (Hillsdale) drove in the game's first run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly that scored Katie Tam. Tam pinch ran for Mikala Conlin, who led the inning with a double to right center, and took third on an Annabel Hertz's sacrifice bunt.
