CSM Roundup: Baseball, Softball Teams Ousted From Super Regionals

CSM (32-12) was 3-3 in the tournament, losing two of three games to CRC.

The Bulldogs avenged an 8-1 loss to CRC on Saturday with a 7-6 win earlier in the day on Sunday.

But CSM needed to win twice and couldn't close the deal in the finale.

Mark Hurley was the offensive star for CSM on Sunday.

He went a combined 6 for 9 on the day, with three hits including a triple and two RBI in the first game.

Andrew Herrera (1-1) allowed four runs on five hits in relief of starter Luke McCreesh in the finale. McCreesh lasted just one inning, allowing three runs (two earned) in one inning.

Consumnes River advances to the state tournament in Bakersfield, which opens Friday.

CSM's softball team, which was also hosting a Super Regional over the weekend, was eliminated on Day 2 of the tournament on Saturday, when the Bulldogs lost twice.

The Bulldogs lost to Ohlone 7-3 in the first game, and 6-4 to eventual champion Sierra later in the day.

Sierra advances to the state tournament in Bakersfield, which opens Friday.
