CSM Pitcher Fredendall Signs with Washington
All-American right-hander headed to Pac-10; Hillsdale alum led state in ERA in sophomore season.
After a dominant sophomore year at College of San Mateo, All-American relief pitcher Josh Fredendall signed Saturday with the University of Washington.
Fredendall received offers from Boston College, Kentucky, Texas and San Diego, ultimately going from being a Bulldog to a Husky this weekend.
“When I went on my visit (to Washington), I just felt it,” said Fredendall, a business administration major. “Everything felt right with the school: the players, the coaching staff and academically. I've always been an academic person so that was a big factor that I considered with the schools that were interested in me.”

The 6-foot closer out of Hillsdale High posted a minuscule 0.25 ERA in 12 appearances, compiling a 3-0 record with two saves in 36 innings of work. The right-hander allowed one earned run the entire season.
Fredendall had big shoes to fill heading into the season, replacing All-American fireman Justin Burns, who played a large role in CSM’s run to the state championship game in 2010.

Fredendall showed he was up to the challenge, overwhelming opponents with a two-seam fastball in combination with a deadly slider, which helped the Bulldogs to a 27-12 record this season.
“I threw two change-ups all year so I plan on improving that pitch,” said Fredendall, 20. “If I perfect the change-up it will help me going into the Pac-10, as I face some of the best hitters in the country.”
This fall will pair Fredendall with assistant coach Jordon Twohig, who coached Ohlone’s 2010 state championship team.
“Coach Twohig and I talked a lot about last year’s run to the state championship,” said Fredendall. “CSM and Ohlone have two of the best programs in junior college baseball, so it will be a lot of fun working with him and the rest of the coaching staff.”
“I’m excited to play every team in Washington’s schedule,” he added. “My mother works at Stanford, so it would be great to play in front of her and her co-workers. The games at Stanford and Cal would also allow my family and high school friends and coaches to come watch me play. I’m excited to have this opportunity.”
