CSM Notebook: NorCals Run Through CSM

Bulldogs to host track, baseball and softball playoffs

College of San Mateo has three sports teams that will live to play another day this season, and none will see a Northern California venue other than their own.

All CSM competition ahead of the state championships will be played on the hilltop campus the first two weekends of May.

Both the CSM softball and baseball teams were seeded No. 2 in the Northern California playoffs, meaning they will host best-of-three first-round regional tournaments on Saturday and Sunday.

Series winners in both sports advance to May 11-13 super regional tournaments, where they’ll play to advance to the May 18-20 state final four in Bakersfield.

Here’s a look at what’s ahead:

NorCal Track and field:

CSM will play host to the Northern California track and field trials (May 4) and finals (May 11).

Softball pairings:

Coast Northern champion CSM (36-4) will host No. 15 American River College (23-15) of Sacramento on Saturday at 2 p.m. Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday at noon. A potential Game 3 would be played immediately afterward if necessary.

The Coast Conference will be represented by seven of the 16 qualifying Northern California teams.

Baseball pairings:

Coast Golden Gate champion CSM (27-9) will host the winner of Tuesday’s play-in game between No. 18 Los Medanos (21-14-1) at No. 15 Cabrillo (21-15) in Aptos.

Canada (22-14) also made the 18-team NorCal field in the No. 14 position and will visit No. 3 Ohlone (26-10) in Fremont on Saturday and Sunday.

Six Coast Conference teams made the 18-team NorCal field.

State Championships:

All of the state finals are in Southern California the weekend of May 18.

Softball and baseball state finals will be played at Bakersfield College. State track and field finals will be held at Cerritos College in Norwalk (Los Angeles County).
