In a year in which the College of San Mateo athletics community is celebrating its past, the present day Bulldogs are busy creating some memories of their own.
CSM marked the 90th year since the school instituted athletics by winning three Coast Conference championships in a three-day span, and the Bulldogs are hopeful more hardware is on the way with the Bulldogs poised for more honors at the track and field conference championships (Wednesday through Saturday at Hartnell College of Salinas).
"This was a very exciting week, a moment in CSM's history we won't forget it," CSM swimming coach Randy Wright said after his women's team won a title in the first conference championship meet the school has hosted.
"The Bulldogs not only put on a great show but won at home."
Here's a look at what CSM just did:
- The CSM softball team, leading the state in wins (36) and win streak (20 games), clinched the Coast North title on Thursday with a mercy-ruled 14-0 victory over visiting Chabot on Thursday. CSM will host a best-of-three first-round state regional playoff series May 5-6.
- The CSM baseball team, ranked No. 2 in Northern California, wrapped up the Coast Golden Gate title with a 12-0 thrashing visiting De Anza on Saturday. CSM will host a best-of-three first-round state regional playoff series May 5-6.
- CSM’s women’s swimming won the three-day Coast Conference title in decisive fashion, also sweping top individual honors with the outstanding female swimmer, Miya Oto (Aragon High) and the co-outstanding male swimmer Carlos Sanchez. CSM won 12 men's and women's individual championship medals.
