SM-FC School District Academy to Host ‘STEMinars’

Bayside STEM program to promote "cross-generational learning."

A Peninsula middle school designed to prepare children for the jobs of tomorrow is about to reach out to adults of today.

The San Mateo-Foster City School District’s advanced Bayside Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Academy will soon offer evening participatory classes that will simulating the advanced middle school learning experience for adults.

The “STEMinars” will highlight how advanced technical curriculum is taught by Bayside STEM faculty.

“STEMinars provide a unique opportunity for cross-generational learning; students are the experts, as are the robots,” Bayside Principal Jeanne Elliott said. “We hope you can join the fun.”

The first STEMinar will be an Introduction to Robotics Engineering in which participants will learn how to program and test one of the school’s Lego Mindstorms Robotics. The STEMinar will be taught by Bayside instructor Rob Bolt with assistance from some of his students.

The STEMinar will be held on March 19th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 20. Space is open to the first 30 registrants. Those interested in signing up are encouraged to email Bolt at rbolt@smfc.k12.ca.us.
