Donations totaling over $7,000 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through its Pennies for Patients (P4P) campaign surpassed last year’s total by almost $2,000, the San Mateo-Foster City School District announced on Thursday.

The contributions bring the total the school has raised for the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to the treatment and cure for blood cancer over 12 years to almost $50,000.

“The response by our students raising a new record amount this year is another example of their empathy and willingness to give help/relief to others, one of the focuses of our Life Skills program,” FCE Principal David Holcombe said in a prepared statement.

“We have participated for several years with this campaign and the Foster City School community really stepped up this year (as they have done in the past). We hope that our contribution to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society helps to find a cure.”
