Cooper Hits Key Basket in CSM Basketball Victory

CSM ended a four-game losing streak.

The College of San Mateo women's basketball team rose the roof at Skyline College on Wednesday night, edging the host Trojans, 42-38, in a Coast Conference North Division contest.

South San Francisco High grad Kay Cooper hit a three-pointer to put the Bulldogs (1-1 in conference play, 6-11 overall) ahead, 40-38, with 16 seconds remaining to play. Angalique Gibbs added a pair of free throws with two seconds left.

CSM, which ended a four-game losing streak, maintained the lead throughout the game. That is, until Mills High grad Stephanie DelBianco recorded a steal and went the length of the court for a layup to put Skyline ahead, 38-37, with 1:27 remaining to play.

The Trojans took advantage of an awful shooting game for the Bulldogs, who were 15 percent from the field after halftime.

Guard Teanna Price scored all of her CSM game-high 10 points (including two 3-pointers) in the first half and was then sidelined  with an injury.

Skyline (1-2, 4-11) was led by Malia Elliott-Tufonoere with 16 points, and DelBianco with 10.

CSM hosts City College of San Francisco at 5:30 p.m. Friday while the Trojans visit CCSF next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
