has raised over $5,800 for the Make-A-Wish Pocketful of Wishes Campaign, the announced this week.

"Throughout February, Brewer Island students eagerly collected quarters and scotch taped them to heart pockets, brought them to school, and happily deposited them in coin banks, which each class hosted for the month," said Coordinator of Community Services Amber Farinha. "For each dollar collected, students received a paper heart that teachers put in their windows. As the drive progressed, all of the Brewer Island windows began to overflow with love, as red and pink hearts of all shapes and sizes decorated the windows across the campus."

The drive began in January with the theme “Together We Can Make A Wish Come True." On March 9, Brewer Island students and staff hosted an assembly to present Tiffany O’Malley from the Greater SF Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation with a giant check for their 2011 Pocketful of Wishes Drive.

Last year, Brewer Island was the top performing school in the Pocketful of Wishes campaign, topping their own goal of $2,000 by raising $3,065. This year, their goal was to double that by raising $7,500.

"Fifth grade students were amazing in demonstrating their life skills of caring, initiative, effort and perseverance as well as showing their generosity in giving of themselves to this wonderful cause," Farinha said. "As a fifth grade class they received donations of over $3000 collectively. There were nine other Brewer Island
classrooms that collected $100 or more – all thanks to students’ generous hearts."
