Brewer Island Elementary School Launches 2011 Pocketful of Wishes Campaign

The coin collecting drive will run Feb. 1 through Feb. 28.

Fifth grade students at have launched their 2011 Pocketful of Wishes community service project along with the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation. The coin collecting drive will run Feb. 1 through Feb. 28.

For the project, students reach out to the Foster City community by "spreading the Brewer Island Make-A-Wish Love” and inviting community members to join them in helping to make a wish come true by becoming a sponsors or donating to the project. Last year, Brewer Island .

"The spirit and creativity of Brewer Island’s teachers and student leaders inspired the entire school community to embrace the campaign and the Make-A-Wish mission," said Coordinator of Community Services Amber Farinha. "By collecting this amount of money, Brewer Island students can fully grant a wish to a child with a life threatening illness."

In 2010, students topped their own goal of $2,000 by raising $3,065. This year, their goal is to double that by raising $7,500.

"Brewer Island Elementary School’s community service project gives students a chance to be part of a wonderful organization that helps to grant special wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions," said Farinha." It is a wonderful way for students to give back to the community."
