Maker Faire Memories That Shall Never Fade

I was a volunteer at Maker Faire 2011 and was on duty for one of the most fun activities: the Coke Mentos Event.

Well, it's been a week since the Maker Faire 2011 has ended, but I just can't help recollecting some memories which continue to flash back in my mind. I guess, just like an interesting hook of a song which keeps you humming the song, I remember some things that were a real treat to my eyes!

This was my first visit to the Maker Faire. The interesting part was that I was a volunteer and was on duty for a nice activity happening around corner, the Coke Mentos Event. Thousands of Coke bottles were lined up and when 5 Mentos pieces were dropped in each, the fizz went swirling in all directions giving all the spectators a nice Coke drizzle. The crowd went berserk for the tons and tons of Coke swirling in all directions and it was just the perfect treat to the sun-baked visitors. I call it "the Coke rain!"

During the demo, we got  a nice explanation about how it happens. No, it is not because of any chemical reaction. But I shall keep the how a secret! They also added knowledge about the innumerable sugar layers on each piece of mentos. Kids curiously asked if they could drink the free Coke at the end. That's when they realized that it didn't taste the same as the old Coke after this activity (cuz all the fizz is gone) and I could see them go "Ahh!"
