Congresswoman Jackie Speier, D-San Mateo, is asking residents this week to participate in her “Speier Corps,” as a way of both giving back to the community and networking.
Speier launched Speier Corps at her last Job Hunters Boot Camp and nearly 80 volunteers have already signed up.
“Speier Corps” is now ready for its first group project -- volunteers will clean up the Magic Mountain Playground in the Coyote Point Recreation Area in San Mateo on Wednesday, Aug. 29.
Volunteers are asked to dedicate two to three hours between 9 a.m. and noon to roll up their sleeves and help weed, plant, spread mulch or paint picnic tables.

Volunteers' work will benefit local children and families who use the county park. This is also a great way to network with people.
"I am a firm believer that volunteering and networking often lead to jobs, so if you are looking for work, take advantage of this opportunity," Speier said.
If you are interested in joining Speier Corps, but are not available on Aug. 29, please contact Judy Bloom to find out about future volunteer opportunities: (650) 342-0300 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
