They'll Be Working On the Railroad...

On Monday, Caltrain crews replace rail ties at the San Mateo station.

Caltrain will perform routine maintenance at several locations throughout the Peninsula Sept. 29 to Oct. 5.

To avoid delays to passengers, the work will take place Saturday through Friday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be some construction noise but Caltrain says crews will work as quietly as possible. For more information about this type of work, click here.

Maintenance Projects:

San Mateo to Belmont Monday, Oct. 1, through Wednesday, Oct. 3, crews will operate medium duty on-track machinery to remove and replace rail ties between the San Mateo and Belmont stations.

San Francisco to San Jose Saturday, Sept. 29, through Friday, Oct. 5, crews will power wash and perform janitorial work at Caltrain stations between the San Francisco and Tamien stations.

Menlo Park to Sunnyvale Sunday, Sept. 30, through Tuesday, Oct. 2, crews will operate medium duty on-track machinery to grind and align tracks between the Menlo Park and Sunnyvale stations. Sunday, Sept.30, crews will operate medium duty on-track machinery to remove and replace rail ties between the Menlo Park and Sunnyvale stations.

San Francisco to South San Francisco Thursday, Oct. 4 and Friday, Oct. 5, crews will operate a test train between the San Francisco and South San Francisco stations.

San Francisco Monday, Oct. 1, through Thursday, Oct. 4, crews will weld and grind tracks at the San Francisco station rail yard.

Palo Alto to Sunnyvale Wednesday, Oct. 3 and Thursday, Oct. 4, crews will operate medium duty on-track machinery to remove and replace rail ties between the California Avenue and Lawrence stations.

Construction Project:

San Bruno Grade Separation Project Day work, which includes digging with a backhoe and mini-excavator, will be done from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crews will install utility infrastructure, place concrete panels using a crane, excavate, grade, and pour concrete. Crews will use medium and heavy duty diesel vehicles to transport dirt and concrete.

Night work will occur from Sunday, Sept. 30, through Friday, Oct. 5, between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Crews will use a crane to place concrete panels. Lanes on San Mateo near San Bruno Avenue may be temporarily closed as needed. Traffic cones and flaggers will direct motorists and pedestrians around the affected areas.

The $147 million project will elevate the Caltrain tracks above three existing at-grade street crossings at San Bruno, San Mateo and Angus avenues.  A new elevated Caltrain station between San Bruno and San Mateo avenues will replace the station at Sylvan Avenue.
