Temporary Caltrain Station to Open in San Bruno

The temporary station will open in San Bruno on Tuesday.

Caltrain trains will begin stopping at a new temporary station in San Bruno on Tuesday as work continues on a new grade separation and permanent station.

The temporary station is located just south of and adjacent to the current station on Huntington Avenue, Caltrain officials said.

The temporary station will allow construction on a new grade separation that will elevate the tracks over San Bruno, San Mateo and Angus avenues. Construction on a future permanent station and the elevated tracks will begin at the end of the year and should be completed by fall 2012, officials said.

The $147 million project is intended to improve safety in the area for motorist and pedestrians and reduce traffic congestion. It will include a 201-space parking lot and a "kiss and ride" lot, as well as three pedestrian overpasses and elevators.

Train service will continue as normal at the temporary station during construction.
