Patch Poll: Happy Holidays...Your Property Taxes are Due Monday

Add one more thing to your to-do list this week: Send Sandie Arnott, the San Mateo County tax collector, a nice big check for the first of two installments of your 2011-2012 secured property tax bill.

According to the information that accompanies your annual tax bill, the county tax collector, Sandie Arnott, is charged with collecting the amount of tax shown on the tax roll. Sandie cannot adjust taxes or extend the date of payment, so it's up to you to pay what you owe.

Due to the first installment date, December 10, fallling on a Saturday, your tax payment is due by 5:00 p.m. Monday, December 12. A 10 percent penalty is added thereafter.

There's a $7,000 homeowner's exemption, but to receive the full exemption, you must have filed a claim with the assessor by February 15, 2011.
