Foster City May Get Farmers Market Next Spring

Foster City City Council tentatively approves the setup of a weekly farmers market

After extensive deliberation Monday night on the various operations involved for a farmers market, the Foster City City Council approved the setup of a weekly farmers market to be held in a part of the city's open 15-acre plot every Sunday beginning in April or May of 2011.

Representatives from Peninsula Jewish Community Center (PJCC)  and local organizer Urban Table answered the queries of the council members on business license display, parking, restroom facilities for the vendors and patrons, setup and closure timings. They also spoke about the best practices at other farmers markets that they currently run in the Peninsula Area, including downtown San Mateo and San Carlos.

The council members approved the closure of the portion of the Balcutha Drive between Foster City Boulevard and Shell Boulevard on Sunday mornings and agreed on a trial period of two months for the Farmer's Market, with extension of the operation dependent on the success of the venture.
