ELECTION WATCH: Candidate Q&A with Sequoia Health Care District Candidate Arthur Faro

Seven candidates are running for three seats on the Sequoia Health Care District Board this Nov. 2. We'll be bringing you our interviews with the candidates over the next few days leading up to the election.

Arthur Faro, 72, is a three term incumbents up for re-election to the Sequoia Health Care District board of directors. He was born in New York City in 1938, but has lived in California and within then district for 46 years. Faro graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Vermont and earned a Masters in Business Administration in healthcare from George Washington University. He began working at Sequoia Hospital in 1964 as director of personnel and services, and eventually became Chief Executive Officer in 1989. He retired as CEO of Sequoia Hospital in 1996. Shortly after, he was elected to serve as member of the board of directors in 1998. Faro was also former chair of the American Heart Association for the Western states and San Mateo.

Why are you seeking re-election?

If re-elected I hope to maintain the District and continue to do our best to ensure the health of our residents.

What do you believe you've accomplished during your current term?

Funded many extremely worthwhile health related programs including the RN program at SF State University in conjuction with Cañada College and Sequoia Hospital. Funded Samaritan House, Children's Health Initiative, St. Anthony's Dining Hall and many others.

What do you see as the challenges of the district?

The challenges of the District are mainly to determine which of the many worthwhile organizations should get our funding. Further, to maintain the District as it is.


What impact do you see the new federal health care legislation having on the district?

Not having read the new federal health care legislation, and not getting much information about it I can't comment on how it will affect the District, if at all.
