El Granada Resident is 'Woman of the Year'

Jeanine Asche selected for honor by the San Mateo County Women in County Government.

Longtime El Granada resident Jeanine Asche has been named the 2011 Woman of the Year by the San Mateo County Women in County Government.

Asche, who directs literacy programs and community outreach in San Mateo County as the library system's Community Engagement Services Manager, was chosen to receive the award for her commitment and contributions in her field. She has worked for the county library system since 1988.

Outreach to incarcerated youth and health clinics, the "Raising a Reader" program for families with young children, Babies and Books and the are just some of the programs Asche has initiated throughout her career with the library.

She also worked to integrate the library's work with San Mateo County's Health Department, the county Office of Education, Child Care Coordinating Council, Head Start, Peninsula Community Foundation, Peninsula Library System, school districts and the State Library, among others.

Though her job responsibilities span across the entire county, Asche can also be seen at the frequently during programs and events.

In her spare time, Asche has served in a leadership role as the past president of the Board of Directors.

Asche will be honored on Dec. 12 by the San Mateo County Women in County Government along with recipients of the Team Player, Rookie of the Year, and Development – Self and/or Others awards. 

The awardees will also be recognized at the county's Board of Supervisors meeting on Dec. 12.
