Woodside Man Charged With Killing Wife for $31 Million

Prosecutors say motive was life insurance money.

A man from Woodside is being charged with murdering his wife to cash in on her multimillion dollar life insurance policy.

Pooroushasb Parineh says he was just trying to help.

Parineh told prosecutors that his wife Parima Parineh was trying to commit suicide with a handgun back in April of 2010.  But she was only able to shoot herself in the cheek, so she asked him to shoot her in the head, he says.

He did. The reasons for doing so were being contested in court Wednesday by prosecutor Al Giannini who says that Parineh murdered her, so he could pay off his debts with her life insurance policy.

San Mateo County Assistant District Attorney Karen Guidotti says cases such as this one are rare.

“Off the top of my head, I can only think of two other cases in the county like it,” she said.

The Mercury News reports that Parineh is in San Mateo County Jail until he has to appear in court again on Nov. 2.
