Evading Capture, Suspected Lucky's Shoplifter Tosses Heroin Stash

The suspect was eventually detained, charged, and booked into Maguire Correctional Facility.

When San Mateo County sheriff's deputies arrested a suspected shoplifter at a San Carlos grocery store on Friday, they had to nab him twice---the first time he was detained inside the store, and the second time as he attempted to run through the parking lot.

According to Dep. Rebecca Rosenblatt of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a report of a shoplifter inside the Lucky's Supermarket located at 1133 Old County Rd. in San Carlos at about 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 10.

Upon arrival, deputies detained and began questioning the suspect--Anthony Stovell, 29, of Oakland--inside the store, when he suddenly fled on foot, running through the Home Depot parking lot.

Deputies gave chase and saw Stovell toss a white container on the ground.  Stovell was quickly captured, and the white canister was recovered and found to contain a significant amount of suspected heroin.

Rosenblatt said Stovell was subsequently transported to the Maguire Correctional Facility and booked for the attempted burglary of over $800 in health care and personal hygiene items, possession of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest.
