Sheriff's Deputies Looking for Suspect in Lehigh Shootings; Considered Armed and Dangerous

Shareef Allman, 45, suspected in shooting eight people at plant, and possibly a woman in an attempted carjacking at Homestead and Tantau in Cupertino.

A manhunt is underway in Cupertino, Sunnyvale and Santa Clara as police are searching for Shareef Allman, 45, who is a suspect in the shooting of eight people at the Lehigh Southwest Cement Plant in Cupertino around 4 a.m. today.

He is also a suspect in the shooting of a woman during an attempted carjacking near the corner of Homestead Road and Tantau Avenue after the shooting at Lehigh.

Allmon is a black male with a light beard, a Sheriff's spokesman said. He was last thought to be on foot, possibly is carrying a 40 calibre pistol and a rifle.

The spokesman said eight people were shot at the plant, but would only say that two were possibly dead, and could not confirm the conditions of the other six employees.

The woman shot during the attempted carjacking was taken to a local hospital, but he did not have her condition.

The suspect allegedly walked into a daily safety meeting around 4 a.m. and opened fire, the spokesman said. Employees told deputies the entire incident took about two minutes.

The spokesman described Allmon as a "disgruntled employee", but said he did not know if it was related to work, or a personal issue.

Deputies believe that he may have then left the plant, and then attempted the carjacking near the Cupertino and Sunnyvale border.

High schools in the Fremont Union High School District are reportedly on lockdown. An emergency message was sent to parents telling them to not come to school.

Deputies set up a road block at the corner of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Foothill Boulevard, just down the street from the cement plant at 24001 Stevens Creek Boulevard.

Family members of employees were waiting at the road block for news about loved ones  inside.

No one was allowed past the block, but residents were allowed to leave, after deputies inspected their vehicles.
