San Mateo Man Hit by Truck in Belmont; Dog Killed

Police say speed not a factor in Middle Road accident.

A man was injured and his dog was killed when they were hit by a truck in Belmont this morning.

The 69-year-old San Mateo man and his pet pit bull mix were crossing Middle Road at Notre Dame Avenue in a crosswalk at about 8:50 a.m. when they were struck by a 2001 Dodge pickup truck, according to the Belmont Police Department.

The 58-year-old driver was headed south on Notre Dame Avenue and was turning east onto Middle Road when the collision occurred.

The man was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. Family members took the dog to a veterinary hospital, where she died.

Speed does not appear to have been a factor in the collision, which is still under investigation.
