Belmont police say they've arrested a man in connection to a recent home burglary-- less than a week after it occurred.

According to Belmont Police Captain Patrick Halleran, 36-year-old Alvaro Alarcon, Jr. is suspected of breaking into a house in the 1100 block of Irwin Street last Friday.

"Alarcon's use of the victim’s credit card in a local store shortly after the burglary led to his identification and subsequent arrest," Halleran said.

The man, a transient, was arrested Wednesday night at a trailer park in unincorporated Belmont, according to Halleran.

"During the contact, Alarcon was found to be in possession of stolen mail and narcotics," the captain added.  "He was subsequently arrested without incident and booked into the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City on charges of burglary, possession of stolen property, use of a stolen credit card, identity theft and possession of a controlled substance."
