Oil Slick Leads to Crash Involving Daly City Officer, Truck

The collision occurred on Hwy 92 near Skyline Boulevard.

An oil slick on state Highway 92 near Skyline Boulevard this afternoon caused a Daly City police motorcycle officer to lose control of the bike, which was then struck by a utility truck.

The California Highway Patrol initially received reports at about 4 p.m. of a disabled 2000 Ford utility truck in the eastbound lanes of traffic, Officer Ralph Caggiano said.

Earlier reports indicated the motorcycle officer was also involved in the crash and sustained minor injuries, but that it was unclear how the truck became disabled, Caggiano said.

All lanes in both directions were temporarily shut down, Caggiano said, with both eastbound and westbound traffic later directed along the westbound lanes while a Sig-alert was in effect for 45 minutes.

The CHP issued the alert at 4:27 p.m.; it was canceled at 5:12 p.m.

Caggiano said Caltrans crews finished cleaning up the oil from the roadway using absorbent material at 5:55 p.m. and that the oil was present on the road before the crash.
