Burlingame Police Corporal Brett Murphy says Wednesday's STEP deployment focused on two local cities: Daly City and South San Francisco.
"This was the fourth deployment in 2014 of a collaborative effort to increase traffic safety and awareness in known trouble spots throughout San Mateo County," Murphy said.
The April 16 operation, a part of distracted driving awareness month, was primarily aimed at curbing texting and driving.
Officer made a total of 210 traffic stops in Daly City and South San Francisco, and issued a total of 188 citations, according to Murphy.
The breakdown of tickets was as follows:
- 86 for distracted driving violations
- 38 for pedestrian safety violations
- 25 for stop sign violations
- 10 for seatbelt violations
Murphy said that Wednesday's deployment will be one of many planned for the coming year. Nearly every Peninsula law enforcement agency is taking part.
"The number of traffic stops and citations during this most recent deployment reflect a sustained enthusiasm for this program and traffic safety on the Peninsula," he added.
