Massive Fire Burning in San Francisco

The blaze was reported just before noon Thursday. Smoke is visible for miles.

A five-alarm fire is burning out of control at several buildings in San Francisco's Western Addition neighborhood this afternoon.

The fire was reported at 11:53 a.m. on Pierce Street near Elm Street, a narrow road between Golden Gate Avenue and Turk Street, a fire dispatcher said.

No injuries had been reported as of 12:40 p.m., the dispatcher said.

The buildings are on the west side of Pierce Street, said Valerie Davison, who lives on the other side of the street.

"It's spreading -- the smoke is coming out of the windows, and there's a lot of windows over there," Davison said.

"They're going to have to get help, the flames are getting bigger," she said at 12:20 p.m.

The blaze is sending thick black and gray smoke into the air that is visible for miles.
