Local CHP Crack Down on Texting, Other Distracted Driving Habits

The Redwood City CHP Office says - think before you send that next text, because we'll be watching.

In a growing effort to stem the dangerous tide of texting and cell phone use while driving, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has designated April as National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

The Redwood City office of the California Highway Patrol (CHP), in support of California’s statewide slogan, “It’s Not Worth It,” will be "ensuring a high-level of visibility and enforcement effort in conveying the message that texting or using a hand-held cell phone while driving is never worth a collision, injury, or death," said Captain Mike Maskarich. "The public’s support of this safety campaign is paramount to its success and in assisting all public safety entities to make our roadways as safe as possible."

Maskarich said Redwood City CHP officers will be increasing patrols through the month of April, looking to cite those who choose to hold their cell phones while talking, and text, while driving.

What do you think of the laws against talking on hand-held cell phones and texting while driving? Tell us in the comments below.
