Live Grenade Believed to be from Vietnam Discovered in Home Garage

Found at home in Pacifica last week.

A bomb squad disabled a live Vietnam War-era military grenade found at a home in Pacifica last week, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Last Wednesday around 5:25 a.m. the San Mateo County Sheriff's Bomb Squad responded to a report of a Vietnam military grenade that was inside a garage in the Linda Mar area.

The sheriff's office said the military grenade was believed to have been brought back from the Vietnam War as a souvenir.

After the bomb squad inspected the grenade it was determined to be intact and live.

The squad then secured the grenade and took it to a remote location where it was safely mitigated, according to sheriff's officials.

Once in the 80's while metal detecting in Golden Gate Park we uncovered a fragment grenade. The bomb squad was called and they said it was still live and probably left here during WWII. How many more are laying around?

Pacifica Police officers found the grenade, then called the Sheriff's dept. for disposal.
