Foster City Makes List of 100 Safest Cities in America

The award honors the accomplishments of the police force, as well as a community bonded in prideful citizenship.

Foster City has been named one of the 100 safest cities in the U.S., according to Location, Inc., a national residential and commercial data tracking company.

The quiet community, known for its annual Art and Wine Festival and blue lagoon, was ranked No. 81 on the list.

Each year since 2002, Neighborhood Scout has published a list of the top 100 safest cities in America, calculated on cities with 25,000 or more population, and based on the total number of crimes per 1,000 residents.

Data used for the research includes the total number of UCR [Uniformed Crime Reporting] crimes reported to the FBI to have occurred in each city, and the population of each city.

Foster City Police Capt. Joe Pierucci said the city is also the 15th safest in the state of California out of approximately 261 municipalities with a population of more than 25,000 residents.
