Firefighters Quickly Extinguish Blaze in San Mateo

The fire occurred at a single-family home on Thursday morning.

A fire caused more than $20,000 in damage to a home in San Mateo early Thursday morning, fire officials said.

The blaze was reported at 6:14 a.m. at a single-family home at 255 W. 40th Ave., according to fire officials.

San Mateo fire and police units responded and found flames in a small crawl space under the house.

Crews confirmed all occupants were out of the home and quickly extinguished the fire, containing the flames to the area of origin.

The fire’s cause is under investigation and appears to be accidental.

In total, eight units and 20 personnel from the  San Mateo Fire Department, Foster City Fire Department and Belmont Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The San Mateo Fire Department encourages everyone to check smoke detectors monthly and to change batteries regularly.
