All lanes have been reopened on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge after a fatal collision knocked out power on a section of the eastern portion early Tuesday morning, according to the CHP.
The crash on eastbound state Highway 92 was reported at 12:32 a.m. A white SUV hit the center divider on the bridge, and then hit a structure containing high voltage power lines.
At least one person has died due to the collision, and the Alameda County coroner's bureau responded to the scene.
Power was shut down between the structure and the eastern toll plaza, CHP officials said.
A sig-alert was issued at 1:04 a.m. advising motorists that two lanes of the eastbound portion of the bridge would be shut down due to the accident.
CHP officers remained on the scene investigating as of 5 a.m., and further information about the victim has not been released.
