Week in Review: Perez Wins Council Seat

A round-up of major news stories from the past week.

Sunday, Nov. 6

On the eve of Tuesday’s city council race, outgoing facing the incoming council regardless of the election’s outcome.

Wednesday, Nov. 9

Herb Perez with a third place finish in Tuesday’s election. Perez won by less than a percentage point, garnering 18.5 percent of the vote to finish ahead of Jennifer Minkey-Selvitella (17.8 percent), with the two candidates separated by just 65 votes.

First-time candidate Steve Okamoto led the field of six with 22 percent of the vote, and Vice Mayor Art Kiesel was second with 21.4 percent.

 

Thursday, Nov. 10

Foster City’s Sam Runco was inducted last month. Runco is known for innovations in projection screen televisions and for trademarking the term “home theater.” He is called the “Godfather” of home theater within industry circles.

 

Friday, Nov. 11

Isabella Aurora Reyes came into the world measuring 19.5 inches and weighing seven pounds on November 11, 2011, at 11:11 a.m.

She was born at Kaiser Permanente on Cottle Road in San Jose, The child is the first for parents Carlos and Tanya Reyes.

"When it got close to the 11-11 thing, everyone was getting pretty excited," said father Carlos Reyes. "She's about a week early.”
