Week in Review: Not so Special Delivery in Foster City; Sexual Assault at Skyline College

A round-up of major news stories from the past week.

Monday, Oct. 24

Some longtime Foster City residents living on Arcturus Circle told Patch that they went . They said they were told the irregularities were the result of United States Postal Service route cancellations.

A USPS spokesman told Patch that the Foster City situation as described was an “anomaly,” and not the result of cutbacks the USPS has had to make to bridge budget shortfalls.

Tuesday, Oct. 25

A superior court judge on Tuesday in the case of a Foster City man charged with two counts of attempted murder.

Jesse David Wilson, 40, is accused of shooting two men for creating a ruckus at his Beach Cove Apartments on Catamaran Street on July 9 of last year.

Wilson’s trial, which had been set to start on Oct. 31, was rescheduled to Dec. 12 by Judge Lisa Novak.

Wilson, who also faces five counts of assault with a firearm, is out $500,000 bail.

 

Wednesday, Oct. 26

A at  on Tuesday night, police said. 

Police responded to a report of an assault about 8:30 p.m. on the campus. The victim told officers she was in a classroom by herself when a man came in the room and sexually assaulted her. The man then fled the room, and police are now investigating the incident. 

  

Thursday, Oct. 27

A in a battle over which schools their children could attend to the county, and won.

A San Mateo County school-redistricting panel on Tuesday night voted 6-0 in favor of the Bendicks in support of their petition to redistrict about 40 homes on Fairmont Drive that sit in the Belmont Redwood Shores District.

The Bendicks are among 40 San Mateo households living on Fairmont who because of boundaries set up decades ago when the county was configured differently, were unable to send their son, Jacob, to Borel Middle School last year. Jacob is now in sixth grade attending Abbott under an agreement between the San Mateo Foster City Elementary and BRS Districts.

 

Friday, Oct. 28

San Mateo County election officials started , signaling the start of a frantic 10-day period leading up to the Nov. 8 elections. County officials report receiving more 31,000 ballots already (an above average total at this stage of the race), and they’re expecting many more. The county issued 181,465 mail-in ballots.

Officials say getting a head start on the mail-in votes enables them to post results in short order after the polls close at 8 p.m. on Election Day.
