Local Food Producers Honoring 'Food Day'

San Mateo Food System Alliance hosting informational event, potluck.

A San Mateo County collaborative of sustainable food producers and educators will honor “Food Day” with an informational event at the Foster City Library tonight.

The San Mateo County Food System Alliance is inviting the public to attend the 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. event, which features a potluck dinner.

The Alliance encourages participants to join the potluck and bring a dish prepared with a local ingredient.

The event will also include a series of short films about Pie Ranch, a nonprofit educational farm in Pescadero, and a brief panel discussion on the Alliance’s work to promote a sustainable food system.  

Admission to the event is free.

The San Mateo Food System Allianceis a countywide collaborative formed in 2006 by farmers, fishermen, farmers’ market managers, garden-based educators, public health professionals, residents and environmental advocates whose mission is to promote and support a sustainable food system that is economically viable, environmentally sound, and socially just. 

“Food Day” is described by the Alliance as a nationwide grassroots campaign to encourage Americans to “eat real” and support healthy, affordable food grown in a sustainable, humane way.

The Alliance’s stated mission is to inspire and connect people to the source of their food.
