Clean Air Goals Fuel Foster City Earth Day Fair

Saturday afternoon event to emphasize alternative transportation.

The City of Foster City and the Environmental Sustainability Task Force will host an Earth Day Fair later this month emphasizing alternative transportation.

The 2012 Earth Day Fair will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at (610 Foster City Blvd).

The  "Clean Air, Clean Transportation" themed event will encourage alternative transportation, such as walking, biking, public transit or cleaner energy vehicles to promote healthy living and cleaner air.

Fair Activities: The family-friendly fair will feature food, live music, children’s arts and crafts, and activities including magician and juggling performances throughout the day.

Green Vendors: Vendors will showcase "green" products and services such as jewelry made of recycled materials, organic skincare products and environmentally friendly shopping alternatives to common consumer products.

Education and Information: A display of alternative fueled-vehicles and innovative bicycles that can reduce the environmental impact of transportation will be the centerpiece of the fair., which will feature the Tesla, Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt and electric bikes, among other green vehicles. Information about bicycle and skateboard maintenance and some on-site maintenance assistance will be featured. Attendees will also learn how to get rebates for reducing energy use, options for alternative transportation, and suggestions on how to be involved in Foster City's environmental initiatives.

Safe and Sustainable Disposal: A disposal station will collect unwanted and expired legal pharmaceuticals (in pill form) and electronic waste. Document shredding will also be available (up to three standard banker boxes per person).

Active Reuse: Neighbors can drop-off small unwanted household items and pick up others at no cost in a "Freecycle" swap meet area, and local non-profit groups will accept used goods.

Among the items that will be accepted for donation in the Freecycle area are clothing, shoes, accessories, linens, towels, bedding, housewares, small appliances, dishes, glassware, pots, pans, silverware, tools, jewelry, collectibles, toys, games, books, arts and craft items, musical instruments, sporting goods, bicycles and luggage.

The event is sponsored by Copyland Printing, Gilead Sciences, Gold Medal Martial Arts, The Lagonian Newspaper, Loral Landscaping and The Manor Association.
