Volunteers Are Precious to Seniors

Volunteers in Foster City and elsewhere are precious.

Volunteers are precious in Foster City and anywhere. With the state of the economy and non-profits struggling to provide services, volunteering is more important than ever. In Foster City there is a cadre of volunteers spreading themselves in many differnet areas, everywhere from the Foster City Senior Meals program, Foster City Rotary, the PJCC, and much more. They are important to the survival of many wonderful programs.

Managing those volunteers is a great responsibility and should be done with as much care as is given the aging population they serve. Respect must be given to their time with notice given for meetings to attend, job schedules they are filling, and agendas/formats given in advance so they may digest what will be discussed given their very busy schedules. Remember, they are giving of their precioous time to fill a public service need. Don't forget to thank them either. A pat on the back, a smile and a handshake or a hug go very far.

The next time you see a volunteer anywhere, not just Foster City, thank them for their service. it just may be what spurs them to volunteer again.

I have talked about volunteers before and I will again. They are a most important resource for San Mateo County. We can't be thankful enough and for Pete's sake if you agendize a meeting...show up for it!

Thanks for reading ;-)
