Foster City Village is Off and Running!

Foster City Village opens with 45 members! Many Rotary and other helpers!

Today marked the Grand Opening of the Foster City Village with a national city Village To Village Network record of 45 Members. Beginning March 1st, the Village will provide membership services such as transportation, computer advice, friendly visits, and more to aging residents of the 94404 zip code.

Foster City Rotarian, Madlen Saddick signed up to volunteer to be the new Social Chair. Another Foster City Rotarian, Alvin Joe was honored for his donation of the Foster City Village logo, especially poignant since the Grand Opening took place on Valentine's Day, and he designed a connected heart in the logo. Bill Chow, also a FC Rotarian, was recognized for holding many early morning meetings for the first Executive Board of Directors, and the Advisory Board at his Catering Restaurant, Chow Down. It was a real Rotary day, as another FC Rotarian, Phil Stelling simply came by to congratulate the effort and to make a very nice donation. Thanks, Phil.

The San Francisco State University Gerontology Graduate Studies program joined in collaboration with my colleague, Gabriela Alverez with her joining the Village as the first Gerontology intern to run the office for this semester.

The Rotary Club of Foster City helped the Foster City Village Founder, Patricia Player-Maxwell, Executive Board Member start the non-profit, and is still heavily involved through the 1000's of volunteer hours put forth by many of its members getting the Village started. It's not all Rotarians though, many others are involved. Just to name a few, the Elks made a nice donation, Sequoia Health Care District and Peninsula Hospital too!

More donations, volunteers and members are requested. Please visit the website at: www.fostercityvillage.org to find out more, or stop by the office Monday-Friday from 9:00 to 1:00pm just above the Library.

Thank you to all the volunteers and everybody else involved with getting the Foster City Village off to such a good start. It is our mission to assist aging people in maintaining their quality of life through volunteer, low-cost and discounted services from volunteers and vetted vendors. This Gerontologist is so proud to be part of such a wonderful group that got this project through to fruition. Let's keep it going for today's seniors...and tomorrows!!

Kindest regards from,

Your Foster City Friend ;-)     (and FCVillage Advisory Board Member)
