Foster City Village holds its Grand Opening above the Library at the Community Center (2nd floor)! After literally thousands of volunteer hours, and donations, provided by Foster City Rotarians, Foster City residents and many others for non-profit planning, implementation and the like, the Foster City Village will finally hold its Grand Opening on Thursday, February 14th. The public is invited from 11:00am-1:00pm. Yes, it is Valentine's Day for a reason. The Village logo, created by Foster City Artist and Rotarian, Alvin Joe, has a connected heart symbolizing the connectivity of The Foster City Village providing and giving volunteer, low-cost, and discounted services to aging seniors from vetted vendors and volunteers. Seniors in the 94404 zip code are currently the membership served. There will be tours of the new office also located on the second floor. The Foster City Village, in partnership with the City of Foster City, has agreed to lease the small office location for one year. Office hours will be Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 1:00pm.As a Gerontologist, Foster City Rotarian, Foster City Village Advisory Board Member, and someone who works with seniors every day, I know how important the need is for aging seniors to stay active, socialize, and remain vital contributors to our society. The Village concept allows for that to happen while they live out their lives comfortably at home. The Foster City Village is offering aging services for quality to life! If I had these types of services available for my grandmother through her beginning the older aging journey before Alzheimer's, it would have been easier for her, and we might have seen the signs earlier. Although The Village is not a "medical model" just knowing that someone else is staying in touch gives one "peace of mind." If you are a Senior and would like to become a member of the Foster City Village and receive services, a Sweetheart Deal is being offered through the Grand Opening celebration of $150.00 for an individual, and a different discount for couples. The celebration will be in the Wind Room at the Foster City Community Center above the Library.
