KP Redwood City supports annual Sheriff’s Office event.
A unique activity course set up by Kaiser Permanente will be set up at the 12th Annual San Mateo Sheriff’s Office North Fair Oaks Festival on Sunday. The course, developed by Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre, inspires young people to exercise more, as a way to staying healthy. The Sheriffs Office sponsors the event to build community ties.

Middlefield Road between 1st and 5th in Redwood City becomes a midway, featuring food booths, games, and community information from 11am to 5pm. A team from Kaiser Permanente Redwood City will be on hand to distribute health information, and KP’s Educational Theatre will run the Kids' Course.

In the Kids' Course tent, young people run a brief obstacle course, cheered on by their friends and family. Members of the Educational Theatre, who are trained health educators, moderate the games and act as “referees.”
“We use a bicycle-powered loudspeaker to motivate the kids running the course,” said Jared Randolph, Program Coordinator of the Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre. “It's great when one of the family members or a friend ride the stationary bicycle to generate the electricity to run the speaker.”
"Of course, riding the stationary bicycle provides exercise too, so in this way, the whole family gets a bit of a workout," said Randolph.
Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Medical Center has helped sponsor the North Fair Oaks Festival, which also awards educational scholarships.
