10 Places You Didn't Know Were Open on Christmas

Whether you forgot a gift, ran out of milk or want to grab a bite, these shops and restaurants will be open

Need to buy a last minute gift or looking for a place to brunch or munch on Christmas? While many businesses close up shop during this holiday, not all stores will be putting out the closed sign on their doors. Whether people are looking for entertainment, need to refill a prescription or want to find a place to shop or eat, these establishments in and around Foster City are open for business on Christmas Day. 

  1. Safeway is the only major supermarket that will be open in Foster City on Christmas. Now, you can pick up those extra ingredients needed for Christmas dinner, stock up on groceries or even rent a DVD from the in-store kiosk. Normally open 24 hours a day, the store will have special holiday hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.      
  2. CVS Pharmacy: If you forgot to get that prescription refilled, no need to worry because will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to medical and health needs, CVS has a wide array of personal and beauty care products. The store even carries an assortment of novelty items, gift sets and toys just in case you forgot someone on your list.
  3. 99 Ranch Market is an Asian grocery store that is open 365 days a year. From fresh produce, meats and seafood, the store may serve primarily Asian clientele, but there's more to this market than ethnic specialty products. This holiday season, customers can order special Christmas and New Year combo meals from the hot foods section.
  4. India Cash & Carry: This Indian grocery store will be having regular store hours on Christmas Day. specializes in Indian products and groceries. It also has a frozen foods section stocked with specialty dishes and fresh produce.
  5. American Dine-in Restaurants: For those who want a vacation from cooking during the holidays, there are dine-in restaurants that can grant that Christmas wish. The (IHOP) in Foster City will be serving customers from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and in nearby San Mateo is open 24 hours a day as always.      
  6. Asian/Indian Restaurants: During the holidays, many Asian restaurants are open for business. Luckily, Foster City has no shortage of restaurants offering up Asian cuisine. If you're on the prowl for Chinese food, there are several Foster City establishments such as (Chinese and Japanese cuisine), and . Other places that are open include an Indian spot called the and Vietnamese eatery .
  7. Fast Food: If you happen to crave for fast food that day, then you're in luck. Carl's Jr./Green Burrito in Foster City will be open from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. In neighboring San Mateo just off the freeway, Jack in the Box is sticking to its schedule of being open 24 hours a day. Meanwhile, Taxi's Hamburgers in San Mateo welcomes patrons to dine in on their famous burgers and onion rings, and as a special treat, Santa Claus will be stopping in to say hello to the kiddies.
  8. Century 12 Downtown San Mateo: Looking for something to do on Christmas Day with the family? How about catching a wholesome or fun flick that everyone will enjoy. If you didn't already know, most movie theaters, like Century 12, are open on Christmas and the rest of the 364 days out of the year.
  9. Blockbuster: If going out to catch a movie doesn't sound appealing, another option is curling up with a good Christmas DVD rented from the nearby Blockbuster video store in San Mateo. The store also has blu-ray discs and video games for rent. Customers can also grab some snacks and candy to go with their movies.
  10. 7-Eleven: Need to grab something to tide you over during the drive over to that Christmas family gathering? No matter where, 7-Eleven convenience stores are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week including Christmas. There's hot coffee, pastries or dozens of other snack foods available.
