League of Women Voters Meeting on the Affordable Health Care Act

The new state-based health insurance exchanges, established under the Affordable Care Act, are where individuals, families, and small businesses will be able to buy affordable private health insurance starting in 2014.

California was one of the first states to enact legislation to implement the Health Benefits Exchange, a key provision set by the ACA. How will the delivery, the benefits, and the costs of healthcare insurance change? What changes to Medicaid and Medicare can be predicted? The panel will address these questions and the many challenges to the State, the local communities, the insured, and the providers.

Panelists:  Richard Slavin, MD, Chief Executive Officer, Palo Alto Medical Foundation,  Paul Fearer, Board Member, California Health Benefits Exchange,  Alana Paull, Legislative, aide to Congresswoman Jackie Speier ,  Nicole Fernandez, Legislative aide to Assemblyman Jerry Hill.
